Midnight Visitor

Midnight Visitor

I have to go into the office late at night at least once a month. On this occasion, I had a change planned that started around 10PM, running well past midnight.

My wife called me around midnight saying there was a spider in the house. It's HUGE!! she said. She was trying to be brave and scoop it up and move it out of the house, until several baby spiders jumped off when she touched it. After closer inspection, she noticed that this spider was COVERED in baby spiders.

I drove home immediately, took this picture, then squashed the poor spider. Checking BugGuide it appears this is a Wolf Spider. Checking the site, I found they build underground homes. Weeding the next day, I think I found that tunnel in the middle of the backyward patio. Unfortunately it was damaged before I could take a picture of it also.
